Forging new paths on Capitol Hill Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard took the floor in the House proposing the passing of the Ending Fe
She made a great point below that many businesses are facing as states legalize marijuana medically and recreationally:
“Differences in state and federal law have also created confusion and uncertainty for our local businesses, who face contradictory regulations that affect their bottom line and ability to operate."
Many people that get their card ask about the legal implications if their job performs a drug screening. I asked this question to Senator Espero of Hawaii at the Hawaii Marijuana Expo 2017. He stated that they will continue to work to pass laws that provide protection but currently businesses have their own prerogative in how they manage medicines that their employees use.
At Kupono Ola Pono we encourage all our patients to be transparent with their employers. Talk with your Human resources department about your condition and what medicines and therapies you are utilizing, submit to them a copy of your card if they want so that there are no surprises on a urine drug screening. This can help encourage employers to take a more open minded approach to your situation.
